CERTIFICATION

What certifications can I get by taking online courses?

SBCA currently offers two online certifications: MFH-2 Certification and MDU/SMATV Certification. For other SBCA certifications and all classroom and hands-on courses, please contact SBCA.

How do I get my certificate?

You can download and print your certificate from the SBCA NSTP site, www.sbcatest.com. Allow 2 business days after you pass your online course for your certificate to be ready. Here is the procedure:
  • If you are an SBCA member, log in to the learning system, go to My Profile, and enter your SBCA member number in the field provided. You must do this in order to receive your member rebate!
  • Find your Online Student ID. It will be in the email you originally received with your registration confirmation. It is in the format "MTI_123456".
  • If you cannot find your Online Student ID, send an email to sbcasupport@satprof.com.
  • Go to www.sbcatest.com.
  • Click the link under NSTP Online Results ("Click here to check your certification tests results online & also Print your Certificate online")
  • Enter your last name (as you entered it when you registered online).
    • If you wish to view your certificate for the online MFH-2 Certification course, enter your online student ID in place of the test number. For example, MTI_123456.
    • If you wish to view your certificate for the online MDU/SMATV Certification course, enter C followed by your online student ID. For example, if your student ID was MTI_123456, then enter CMTI_123456.
  • Follow the directions on screen.

REGISTERING

How much does it cost?

Tuition fees are listed in the Course Catalog. Please note that SBCA offers a rebate of $50 for SBCA members.

When are the online courses scheduled?

Online courses are available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. You may log in and work on your course at your own speed. The learning system will remember your place in the course the next time you log in.

Can we share a course login?

No. Registrations are for individual students. The learning system tracks each student’s through the course and records quiz and test scores. If you share an account, you will not be able to take advantage of the critical quizzes and exams, and you will not receive a certificate.

My email address has changed.

Log in, go to My Profile, and enter your new email address. If you have any problems, contact us at sbcasupport@satprof.com.

I failed a course. What do I do now?

Send an email to sbcasupport@satprof.com and ask us to reset the course for you. When the course has been reset, you can start it again. Please note that you must view all pages, pass all quizzes, and pass the final test in order to pass a course. Your time limit will NOT be extended.

Courses are generally active for three months (90 days) after enrollment.

What happens if I don’t finish my course before it expires?

You will not be able to enter the course after you log in. Under certain circumstances, we can extend a course deadline upon request via email to sbcasupport@satprof.com.

How do I download my reference documents?

Log in and click on the Digital Library icon in the lower right corner. From there, you can click on each of the available reference documents to display and/or download them.

The text is small and hard to read.

SatProf online learning materials contain a lot of detail both in text and in graphics. In order to comfortably use the materials, you may need to enlarge the learning page area on the screen. Here are some ways to do that:
  • Press the F11 key. Your browser will then maximuze the current window or tab to completely fill the screen. This works in both FireFox and Internet Explorer.
  • Close your Notes area. This will make more room for the learning page area.
  • Minimize the Table Of Contents on the left, by clicking on the two arrows in the vertical separator bar.
  • Use a computer and display with at least 1024 pixels vertical resolution if you can. The detail in the learning pages is harder to see and manipulate with displays of less than 768 pixels vertical resolution.

I am having trouble turning the interactive dials and controls with my mouse.

Interactive exercises are a key part of SatProf online training, and you do need to be able to manipulate the controls in the exercises using your mouse. Here are some tips to make this easier:
  • Make the learning page area as large as you can (see tip above).
  • Use the mouse wheel. Click on the center of the control, leave the mouse there, and use the wheel to turn the control.
  • When dragging to turn a dial, press the left mouse button and hold it down while dragging the cursor away from the control. Keep the button down as you move the cursor point around the dial. This will give you a lot more "leverage" so you can get finer adjustments more easily.
  • Be sure that your mouse laser/LED window is clean (no pet hairs stuck in there!) and use a mouse pad with good optical texture. A shiny or plain surface often gives trouble to optical and laser mice.

Some of the pages are not displaying correctly, or too slowly.

There can be several possible reasons for this:
  1. The wrong version of the Adobe Flash player is installed on the computer you are using, or Flash is not installed at all. SBCA online courses require that you have at least version 9. For a free update, go to www.adobe.com and click on “Get Flash Player.”
  2. During periods of heavy use, the learning system may slow down somewhat. If that happens, please wait a minute or two and try again.
  3. Most learning pages are quite small (under 100 kbytes) but a few of them are as much as 1 Mbyte. You have to wait until the page is loaded. After that, it should play at full speed locally on your computer.
  4. An unreliable Internet connection is the most common source of problems with access to the learning system. The best way to check for this is to use the tracert utility, as follows:
    a. In Windows, click Start, Run
    b. Type cmd Enter
    c. Type tracert sbca.coursehost.com Enter
First, check that sbca.coursehost.com resolved to an IP address. If not, then your DNS service is not working correctly. Second, look for any delays or blockage along the path. If tracert consistently shows a problem reaching sbca.coursehost.com, then you should contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask for assistance.

How do I know if the course has been updated since I took it?

Check the Online Course Update History.

I am on a page which says to roll my mouse over the pictures to learn more, but nothing happens when I do that.

You must first click somewhere in the page area in order to activate it.

I want to suggest an improvement to a learning page.

We welcome all suggestions and comments! Please send and email to sbcasupport@satprof.com. Be sure to mention the course name, the page title, and the page code (in small letters in the corner.)

If you have any other questions, please contact us at sbcasupport@satprof.com.
